A robust safety program is vital for safeguarding a construction company’s most crucial asset: its workforce. The success of this program heavily relies on the active participation and commitment of the team members themselves. Two years ago, T.W. Frierson demonstrated a proactive stance by establishing a Safety Committee to empower employees and give them a direct role in shaping the company’s safety initiatives. This committee, representing various sectors within our organization, focuses on evaluating our existing safety culture and pinpointing areas that need enhancement.
In the past two years, the committee has spearheaded several key initiatives, including:
- – Developing a distinct safety slogan and vision for the company
- – Ensuring all field leaders pursue the Safety Trained Supervisor in Construction (STSC) Certification, with over 15 personnel already certified
- – Launching the Construction Safety Advancement Program (CSAP) for new hires
- – Implementing eMOD for efficient safety tracking
Moving forward, the committee plans to address several pressing issues, including:
- – Enhancing training opportunities
- – Encouraging employee-led jobsite audits
- – Gaining insights from peer group companies
- – Boosting safety communication
As we continue to address these matters, we remain open to additional initiatives and strongly encourage everyone within the company to think strategically and contribute their ideas. The overarching aim is to uphold a safety program that not only prioritizes the wellbeing of our team but also actively involves them in ensuring their own safety.
