October 2026
T.W. Frierson has been selected as the design-build general contractor for Medacta International’s new manufacturing and U.S. headquarters expansion in Spring Hill, Tennessee, delivered in strategic partnership with DCi and Gresham Smith.
The development represents an $85 million investment over five years and is expected to create more than 200 jobs across manufacturing, corporate operations and supporting roles. It will relocate and expand Medacta’s U.S. headquarters from Franklin while establishing its U.S. manufacturing hub in Maury County.
Delivering a project of this scale requires more than technical expertise. It requires a team that understands Spring Hill – its people, its partners and how to get work done here, while bringing the advanced manufacturing experience and design-build discipline needed for a highly specialized facility.
Built on 68 Years in Middle Tennessee
T.W. Frierson has been delivering projects in Middle Tennessee since 1958. That history has given our team a deep understanding of the region and strong relationships with local officials, trade partners, suppliers and communities across Maury County.
In Spring Hill, those relationships help us move projects forward with clarity and confidence. Local knowledge can accelerate decision-making, strengthen coordination and help keep execution aligned with the schedule – turning a plan on paper into a facility ready for operation.
Our core team also brings a combined 315+ years of advanced manufacturing expertise and 31 years of design-build delivery through our in-house, integrated team. From the earliest stages of design through construction and commissioning, that continuity creates a single, accountable team focused on the same outcome.
A Local Partner with Global Manufacturing Experience
Local knowledge is only part of what a project like this requires. Medacta is part of a growing wave of European-owned manufacturers establishing, expanding and modernizing operations across the United States, and T.W. Frierson has been delivering foreign direct investment projects for more than 35 years.
Through that work, we’ve learned that successful delivery for international manufacturers depends on disciplined coordination, structured communication and close attention to detail. Schedule certainty, quality control, operational continuity and long-term facility performance are central to the process, as is transparent coordination among international ownership, local stakeholders and field teams.
Many of the facilities we support also require elevated environmental control, technically sensitive production spaces and the flexibility to accommodate phased growth or construction within active operations. That experience allows our team to navigate the complexity of advanced manufacturing while keeping operational readiness at the center of project delivery.
The strongest measure of that approach is repeat trust. Many of our international manufacturing clients continue building with us across multiple phases, facilities and capital programs – relationships earned through consistent execution and accountability over time.
An Integrated Team for Clean Room and Advanced Manufacturing Space
Medacta’s Spring Hill facility calls for precision environments and highly specialized manufacturing space designed to support medical device production. That makes the strength of the project team especially important. Gresham Smith brings deep design expertise in advanced manufacturing and controlled environments. Paired with T.W. Frierson’s decades of hands-on production-facility construction experience and DCi’s role in the partnership, the team brings an integrated design-build approach to the project aligned around technical rigor, speed, operational readiness and certainty of execution from day one.
A Global Company, A Local Investment
Medacta is a Swiss company founded in Castel San Pietro, Switzerland, known globally for designing, producing and distributing innovative, personalized and sustainable solutions for joint replacement, sports medicine and spine surgery. As part of its global expansion plan, the company has acquired land in Spring Hill to expand its U.S. presence and establish a manufacturing hub in Maury County.
Located on Jim Warren Road near the intersection of I-65 and Saturn Parkway, the new development will strengthen Medacta’s global medical-device supply chain while creating room for long-term operational growth.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Deputy Gov. and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter, and Medacta International officials announced the expansion, highlighting the broader relationship between Tennessee and Swiss companies. More than 40 Swiss companies operate across Tennessee, accounting for more than 4,000 jobs and $1.2 billion in capital investment.
Building on a Foundation of Trust
At T.W. Frierson, our mission is creating a foundation for people to thrive. Medacta’s expansion reflects that mission in a tangible way: new careers for our neighbors in Maury County, new opportunity for the community and continued momentum for the region’s growing life sciences and advanced manufacturing corridor.
Alongside DCi and Gresham Smith, we’re honored to put our craft, local relationships and manufacturing experience behind Medacta’s vision. We look forward to breaking ground and delivering a facility built to support their work and growth for decades to come.
Stay tuned as this exciting project takes shape.
